The Power of Being Seen

The Power of Being Seen

Some stories are worth sharing because they say something simple and true.

Good work matters.

Encouragement matters.

And the people behind that work often matter more than we realize.

Tyler Anderson, founder of Whatcom Preps in Bellingham, Washington, was recently honored with the Silver Helmet Award, a recognition connected to the Washington State Football Coaches Association (WSFCA).

Through Whatcom Preps, Tyler covers high school sports across Whatcom County. His work gives local student-athletes, coaches, families, and schools a place to be recognized and remembered.

For many students, that kind of recognition is not small.

In his acceptance speech, Tyler shared a memory from his own high school football experience. He described himself as a fringe varsity player, not someone who was often in the spotlight. After making an important play in a game, he saw his name in the newspaper the next morning.

That moment stayed with him.

Years later, it became part of the reason he does this work for others.

Whatcom Preps is a reminder that local stories still matter. A game, a season, a name in a story, a photo, a record of effort — these are the things families often hold onto long after the scoreboard is forgotten.

Tyler’s award was also a reminder that meaningful work is rarely done alone.

In his speech, he thanked the people who have encouraged him along the way, including his parents and his partner, Laura Slyman. His gratitude for Laura was especially moving, and it showed how often a person’s public accomplishments are supported by private strength, love, and encouragement.

That part of the story connects with something we see often at Res Nova Law.

People build lives around the people they love.

They build families, businesses, homes, creative work, community roles, and plans for the future. Often, they do this quietly and steadily over many years.

Legal planning enters that picture because what people build deserves care.

A will, a trust, a business plan, or a thoughtful estate plan is not just paperwork. At its best, it is a way of protecting the people, work, and values that matter most.

Tyler’s story is not a legal story in the traditional sense.

It is a human one.

It is about taking something that once encouraged him and turning it into a way to encourage others. It is about serving a community with consistency. It is about recognizing people while the moment still matters.

That is worth honoring.

Congratulations to Tyler Anderson on receiving the Silver Helmet Award and to everyone whose encouragement helped make his work possible.
